NaNo Week #3 // SNOW, SNIPPETS, AND A SLUGGISH BRAIN

Saturday, November 19, 2016
(three cheers for alliteration! :P)

DAY TWELVE: 1,002

When I first started writing, Saturdays were always my writing days. Sleep in. Curl up on the couch with big sweatshirts and fuzzy blankets. Sip on hot cocoa that warms my stomach, or coffee to get my brain  going.

But now... Saturdays aren't as much my writing days anymore. Which is SAD in capital letters. Instead of writing, my longest shifts are usually on Saturdays, and I need to go to try to go to bed earlier than midnight, since Church is right away next morning.

It makes 10k1days a little harder, but THANKSGIVING BREAK IS COMING UP so maybe I can plan one then. :D

DAY THIRTEEN: 4

No, I didn't forget to add a couple zeroes to today's word count. I really just wrote four words. Today was not a writing day, and though at first I was frustrated with myself... now I'm okay with it. My brain needed a break.

And, hey! I still wrote some words. That I may or may not have deleted right away the next day. Oops.

DAY FOURTEEN: 3,005

Today is proof that taking breaks is a good thing. I felt ready to conquer today after relaxing and breathing yesterday. AND I FINALLY GOT WORDS DONE. Things are happening in my story, and I'm so excited.

Though my character is not, because unfortunately those exciting things ultimately lie in her suffering. Sigh. :P

DAY FIFTEEN: 1,947

Another day where I'm feeling stuck and uninspired. I think that's because my character is doing a lot of traveling, and traveling is so b o r i n g. I am so ready to make it more exciting with edits. xD

I've also been noticing that if I'm tired, my character's probably tired. I'm hungry? My character's hungry. I'm feeling alive and ready to conquer? My character's the same way. Looks like I'll have to deal with editing out some dramatic mood swings. xD

DAY SIXTEEN: 2,197

Today was filled with lovely word wars, and despairing over the fact that I've only read one book this month. ONE BOOK.

THAT IS NOT A VERY LARGE NUMBER.

I am very saddened by this stat and need to read all the things. But unfortunately writing all the things comes first.

(But I have so many books I want to read. o.o Scarlet Moon, Heartless, Scythe, some Ted Dekker books... TOO MANY.)

*ends my bookish ranting and screaming* *someone please give me endless time because I could use it*

DAY SEVENTEEN: (WHO KNOWS)

(basically I am confused about word counts because math is weird and so are graphs, but I WROTE WORDS TODAY and made it to 60,000 and blared music and drank chai. so it was great.)

BUT ALSO LOOK AT THIS MUG. (above)I got it from Cait's Society6 shop, and it is the best thing ever. For every NaNoWriMo I win, I buy myself a mug. I had been eyeing this one for awhile, and IT IS THE AWESOMEST. <3

DAY EIGHTEEN: 1

Ha, another slow writing day. School, work, and then writing this blog post. BUT NOW I'M DONE WITH SCHOOL BECAUSE THANKSGIVING BREAK HAS COME. Hallelujah. I couldn't be happier. xD

(literally just opened up my document and wrote a single word. sometimes I feel alive at midnight, ready to write hundreds of words... but not right tonight. xD)

Also, today was sad. Why? I woke up to snow. SNOW. Yesterday it was 60 and sunny. Today a blizzard arrived. I don't understand. Someone stop the weather. Its going insane. *sobs*

WORD COUNT: 61,207

GENERAL THOUGHTS:

This week was a slower writing week, but I'm not going to complain. It was crazy, and it would've been silly to think that I could keep up with 5,000 words per day.

Ooh! Also... Madeline DMed me on Twitter the other day mentioning that I should do a NaNoWriMo vlog. So that is something I am trying to make happen. No promises, but if all goes well I should have one in next week's NaNo post!

Now stop reading this post. Go write. :P

// katie grace

How is NaNoWriMo going?
Do you have special writing mugs?
(are you mourning with me about the snow?)

  1. I'M GETTING SO CLOSE TO THE END OF MY FIRST DRAFT AND I CAN'T STOP GRINNING. I've NEVER written a first draft in less than two months before, and that was also this year, and it was a big first for me then. And Now. Now I'm going to finish in LESS THAN A MONTH.

    Can't. Stop. Freaking. Out.

  2. I'm not doing NaNoWriMo, but congrats on 60,000 words! Even though you say that this week was a slow writing week for you, it still seems like you've written a lot! Good luck on the rest of NaNoWriMo :-)

I don't do Nano, you have fun though....I guess...

  7. I am so excited about the NaNo vlog!!! *flails* You're going to do a great job! The fact that you've already finished NaNoWriMo but think you had a rough writing week is jaw-dropping. You have accomplished so much! Mad respect!

  8. Ahhh, I relate so hard with the 'WHO KNOWS' day. xD I woke up one morning, started writing, updated on the NaNo site... and then realized I hadn't recorded how many words I'd written the day before in my NaNo journal. xD So I just wrote: ????? (which seems to work quite nicely for my befuddled brain.)

Oh my. SNOW. It's just barely getting cold here. o.o (oh, and I hope you had a safe drive to work! <3)

Cait's Society6 merchandise really is lovely, isn't it? :D I'm thinking of buying some bookish things from there for Christmas presents for people over here. (I love your C.S. Lewis one! That's the one I would get. <3)

Ack, your snippets are gorgeous as always. <3 I just love reading your writing in this new person and tense... and yet I can STILL recognize your writing style that I read in SotD. o.o It's seriously so neat to see how you're trying something so different and that there's still a ton of YOU in there.

A WRITING VLOG?? Oh yes. Do it. Please. xD

As for my NaNoWriMo, you know some details. :P It's been getting better, actually, and I hit 30k yesterday, so there's that. My story is sooo sloooow (seriously, I'm just now getting into action and intrigue), but I'm just going to ignore that fact and WRITE. :P

Plus, if this surpasses 100k (and I'm pretty sure it will) then I'll have the satisfaction of saying I wrote a 100+k novel, even if much of it is boring junk. :P

You're slaying NaNo! So excited to read Where Shadows Lie one day. <3 As you know, I'm totally feeling you on the life and motivation thing.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope your break is an incredible one. <3

ACK EMILY. That was the sweetest comment. *flails over your kind words* UGH THANK YOUUU. <3 <3 <3

I'VE ALREADY SCREAMED ABOUT THIS TO YOU, BUT 100K?!? You're insane. That so many words. Waht even. xD

    4. WAIT WAIT WAIT. I first started reading 1 YEAR and two months ago. Oh my, typos. xP My bad. Yes, I have been around for a lot longer than that. xD

It's actually a neat (in a way) story how I stumbled onto the blogosphere, actually. An older friend from church had a Christian girls' blog, and I followed the profile to her and her friends' writing site. And they were hosting a blog tour for Jaye L. Knight's Half-Blood, and I got to her site. Then I found yours from there. :P

Yes, it was late September 2015 when I started reading your blog!

    5. Gah, another typo/mistake! Grgh.

    6. Ohhh, a year and two months makes so much more sense. XD

Ok, just ignore that section. *moves on* I love that idea how you but yourself a prize. *looks up something to bribe self with*
You have snow?! I REALLY want skme. The weather here doesn't allow us to keep it for very long, and comes at weird times. We had a snow storm in life April this last year. In the south.

    1. Oh nooo. Do you feel like you're almost done in your story?

Go ahead and take the snow! I don't want it. xD I like living in the north, since the summers don't get terribly hot... but then I despise it once the snow comes. -.-

      Awh, thank you. :D

    2. I just am not sure what to write next. I draw a bit of a blank when I get to the middle, but I really want this to be a novel. We'll see. It might change for the better once I can actually go back and edit. :)

  14. I just read what you said about no writing inspiration and I was like "That is so me right now." I crunched out so many words after my brain stopped wanting to that I just can't right write now. I'm so close... yet so far... from the end of my novel. I would not recommend starting Nano late then daring yourself to write everything in a week :P

SNOW!!!! Send the snow to me!!! I love snow! I miss it so much from where I used to live!!!!

Anyway. I'm with you in the lack of writing inspiration. Yesterday was a 0 for me too.

My NaNo novel is kind of... suffering. xD But I'm proud of the fact that I've still managed to write SOMETHING every day, even though sometimes it's only been 100 words at the most because I got stuck. But I think I'm kind of getting back on track now.

NaNoWriMo is going.... Good for the moment... I was INSANELY behind last week, but I got myself all caught up over the weekend and today I reached 75% of my goal, so I'm really excited! I'm just hoping that my three day craft this week along with Thanksgiving won't push me too far behind... O_O
And I don't have special writing mugs, I just have mugs that I take turns with all the time. I have 2 BB-8 mugs which I'm always using... *happy sigh*

  27. KATIE GRACE YOU WON NANO. LIKE BEFORE THE MONTH IS HALF OVER. *falls*
We moved in the middle of November, and we haven't even gotten the computer set up yet (I'm doing basic computer stuff on my laptop...which doesn't have my files for writing on it. UGH.), so I've gotten like very, very little written this month. But I guess I was expecting that too. I mean moving and nano in the same time frame isn't such a good idea.

BUT GOOD JOB. You are an amazing writer like wwwwwwwoooaahhieee.
not sure what that was but yes.

AND SNOW! We got a little last week, but I honestly wouldn't mind a blizzard on Monday night so I don't have to go back to school. Or even during Thanksgiving break. (OOH YES and also congrats on hitting 200 followers on GFC!!!! *bakes a cake* THAT'S SO AWESOME I'M SO EXCITED AHH!
