SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING HAS FINALLY RELEASED.

I've been counting down the days, waiting for this movie to come out, since last May. I've had multiple trailer watching marathons and frequent flailing attacks from the sheer excitement of it all. Dude, I've been so hyped that it's probably a bit pathetic.

My wonderful father bought tickets for the sixth -- the night before it came out. When we left to go to the theater I immediately became nervous -- what if I didn't like it? Maybe it'll only be, "good," and not the "BEST MOVIE EVER." And then maybe I've built it up too much for my family, and what if we're all just a sad bundle of disappointed movie goers?

I will keep this post spoiler free... except for this: Spider-Man Homecoming is now one of my new favorite movies. There were no disappointed movie goers. ;)

Spider-Man has always been one of my favorite superheroes. The original movies with Toby Maguire were my first introduction to the superhero world. (MEMORIES <3) I wasn't a huge fan, but I think that's because younger Katie somehow knew that there would be a better Spider-Man in the future. :P

So then came along the second remakes with Andrew Garfield. (I told myself I wouldn't spend ages on the backstory of my life with these movies but HERE WE GO ANYWAY :P) I feel like these movies get hated on a lot. And yeah, they had some problems, but I still loved love them. And the second movie? It broke my soul. I cry a lot in movies, but outright weeping? I'm still pained over what happened. :P

Now we've moved on to the newest Spider-Man and I'll probably never be done screeching over it. I know many were wary about yet another remake, but I was stoked from the beginning. Because Marvel! How could I not be excited? xD

*weeps happily* I had every right to be excited. IT! WAS! SO! GOOD!

For me, one of the draws to Spider-Man as a hero is how gosh darn young he is. He's in highschool -- my age! (well, technically two years younger than me but close enough) The previous movies had old(er) actors and never really showed the school side of things. But half of Homecoming basically took place in the school. They did it very realistically, creating the struggle of balancing tests and friends and life. (I'm no superhero, but I can attest to trying to do all the things at once and instead just exhausting myself. So go Spidey. :P)

I looove all the characters. They're all unique and have such varied personalities, but it works. Heh, there was one scene where the students were doing sit-ups in gym class, and Michelle (one of the characters), just laid on her back, lifting her book up and down while reading. As a fellow bookworm, I relate.

And it was a genuinely funny, laugh-out-loud movie?? It almost felt like a comedy at some parts because the theater kept exploding with chuckles. I expected the lightheartedness (because of what I had seen from the trailers) but then DUDE it got intense. My sister and I were shrieking (as quietly as you can shriek) throughout all the action. The tension didn't let up and I might've stopped breathing halfway through the movie from the sheer stress of it all (ESPECIALLY WITH THAT CERTAIN PLOT TWIST AH o.o). It felt like I was in the story and the scenes with the characters fighting the villain.

A++++ to the storytelling and character building and acting. In the other Spider-Man movies, I feel like they became accustomed to their powers suspiciously easily. This Peter Parker messed up. He struggled and failed at times, but that made me love him even more. Because yes, he's a superhero, but he's still a human and isn't perfect.

What I love about Peter's character, is how hard he tries to be a good person. There aren't any crazy anti-hero antics -- he's just a good kid trying to do good for his friends and I adore the important emphasis on that. He made mistakes but kept trying, which is a good lesson for all of us -- to keep persisting through our battles. He has such a raw determination and strength and energy to him and ackk I just really love seeing those traits in a hero.

*happy sigh* Basically, go watch Spider-Man. (and then tell me what you think so we can flail about it mwahaha)

<3,
katie grace

have you seen spider-man homecoming?
who is your favorite superhero?

  1. OH MY GOODNESS YES. This post basically sums up all my thoughts on Spider-Man Homecoming. (now I don't need to do a blog post on Monday - which is what I was planning on. I'll just link to yours instead XP) I LOVED IT SO SO MUCH AND HELP I CAN'T GET OVER ANY OF IT AND YEEEET.

Spiderman has ALWAYS been my favourite superhero. I'm actually pretty sure I read some of the comics before I even watched the 2002 movie (and the rest of that trilogy). And yas. I love love love Spidey so much because he's just so relateable. HE'S JUST A TEENAGE KID TRYING TO WORK OUT LIFE ND HELP DON'T WE ALL RELATE??? I sure do anyway.

Wasn't Tom Holland's acting amazing though?? 0-0 Like yes, I'm in awe of it. I'd watch every single trailer several times over and flailed and fangirled and quoted the movie before I even watched it, and I'd watched a ton of interviews that Tom did and I did have a vague thought that 'oh wait, if I do this, what if I can't see him as Peter, but only as actor Tom Holland' BUT NO. It wasn't like that at all. Every single second of the way it was so amazing.
And Michelle. XD She was a hilarious character and gosh I just loved them all.

COMEDY YES. *shrieks* And it's so quoteable and memorable (and I feel like this comment is going to be /very long and insane and fangirlingy XD) You've got the huge intense action and the /so real/ comments that are made right in the middle. ('I'm the chaaair guuuy.' XD) because honestly, if I was in that situation YES. I'D DO ALL OF THAT. I'd be like "WHOA THIS IS SO COOL I'M A SUPERHERO - AVENGERS HERE I COME."

This is BY FAR my favourite Marvel movie (granted, I haven't watched a heap, but still xD) and waaaaay high up right near the very topest top of my favourite all-time. It's just so epic and cool and THE MUSIC. THAT OPENING MUSIC WITH THE OLD SPIDERMAN THEME. I LITERALLY SHRIEKED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE THEATER.

Golly gosh it was done /so/ well and I was so /in/ the movie. That Washington Monument moment when he looks down. O-O I was shivering with tension that whole scene, and aaalll those other ones as well. (AND GOODNESS YES THAT PLOT TWIST. I'm sure my heart stopped for a moment there *screams*)

I know that when I originally saw that there was going to be a new spiderman movie my older sister's reaction was "Really?? Another one??" and I was like "OOH REALLY?! TELL ME THIS IS TRUE PLEASE. I MUST KNOW MORE. IS THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENING? WHEN IS IT COMING OUT? I NEED TO SEEEEEE IIIIIIT." (this is how you can tell that Spiderman is not my sister's favourite superhero xP)

OOH and another thing I loved was that Peter/Spidey was so dyyying to get out of school and be spiderman again. THAT WAS SO RELATEABLE. IF I COULD BE SPIDERMAN I'D WANT TO DO IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Like...who wouldn't?! And he's, like, /my/ age. Not some college-going Superman or some billionaire Batman. He's just a kid like me, going through similar things to me (though I'm not spiderman, and I'm not in 'school' school - yay homeschooling XD but still, it's true) and I love that so much. <33

I've now seen the movie twice. *flails* First time when my Dad took me and then I dragged both my older sisters along. They both liked it, but neither of them are fangirling as hard as I am. BUT SOMETHING TELLS ME THAT YOU AND I HAVE VERY SIMILAR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS MOVIE. Reading this blog post was like someone got my flailing and put it into words. XD

    2. YESSS. Ooh were the comics any good?? I've been interested in starting to read some comics... but I have no idea where to begin. x.x

YESS I TOTALLY AGREE. It's like he is Tom Holland. I'm so happy with the casting and they could've really messed that up but it's PERFECT.

YESSS. "Instant kill activated." "STOP IT WITH THE INSTANT KILL, KAREN." "Now's your chance, Peter. Kiss her." XD

I TOTALLY AGREE. I really loved The Winter Solider. And Civil War. And basically all of the Marvel movies, sooo. :P

I AM SO GLAD YOU CAUGHT THE OPENING OF THE SPIDERMAN THEME SONG. I was humming it to myself and it made me sooo happyy.

EXACTLY the poor kid in school stuck in detention while also trying to save the city and the stress he must feel. *dies*

I JUST SAW IT A SECOND TIME THE OTHER DAY EEP. It's fun watching it with someone who has never seen it before because they're just gasping at the plot twists, and I'm evil laughing in my seat. (I guess that's what it's going to feel like as an author in the future :P)

HAHA when I read your comment I was thinking, "it's like she wrote a blog post in the comments!" XD Great minds think alike. :P

    3. Yeep, as far as I remember they were pretty cool. *nods* I want to hunt some up again and refresh my mind.

I KNOW RIGHT?? Tom was just so /perfect/ for Peter.

      *squees because all the quotes*

I WAS FLAILING SO HARD. Me: "guysguys IT'S THE SPIDERMAN SONG" *other random in the theater* "Uhm yeah what?" "IT'S THE SPIDERMAN SONG - YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. THIS IS SO COOL" XD

EEP that's so cool. IT WAS JUST AS GOOD THE SECOND TIME AROUND. And all the scenes </3 I cried again. xP ohhh yess. I was very disappointed in my sisters for a) GUESSING THE PLOT TWIST and b) having completely uninteresting expressions every time I remembered to look at them instead of just watching the movie. XD

I shall do a post, I think. XD It'll be like deja vu for anyone who's read my comment though. XP

    4. DUDE THEY GUESSED THE PLOT TWIST?? WHOAH. That's impressive. xD

OKAY OKAY. When we were watching it for the second time my family noticed two scenes where there was a guy in a tiger costume sprinting across the screen in the school. Did you notice that too? It was so random and makes me giggle XD

      Delete
    5. YES THEY DID. SOMEHOW??? I don't even know how they did that. xP

YASSS. XD I only saw it once, but it was just so weird and I started giggling too and I didn't even know why. XD

I admit, though, I'm kinda hesitant to watch it because I'm SUCH a staunch Andrew and Emma fan <3 I've never liked Tobey, but Andrew's Spidey is still my bae and that last Amazing movie literally KILLED me. Oh my word I still feel like crying whenever I think about it. My heart broke :(

But I do love what I've seen of Tom in the role, and I'm sure he'll be awesome! So glad you loved the film :)

  5. I haven't seen any of the Spider-Man movies yet. Shame, I know, but... my parents control our television set and they're quite done with superheroes. So. I'm so glad you liked it, and everyone's been saying how great it is :) I might watch it. Eventually.

  6. YESS I absolutely loved it!! Because Peter was so much younger than all the other Marvel superheroes that have had movies, it made all his struggles and pain seem so much more /real/ and heartwrenching. GAH

I need to go watch it again. Mostly because it is now in my top three favorite Marvel movies (with Captain America in first), but also because the theater's electricity went off RIGHT at the end scenes so we missed those ha.

I've seen Tom Holland in a couple other movies and he is such a great actor for how young he is!

    1. I knoww it was so heartbreaking especially with such a young person. *sobs*

YES that plot twist got me. That whole scene was nerve wracking.

I'm glad you liked the movie! Spider-Man is definitely one of my favorite superheroes now.

  10. I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN IT *endless crying* BUT I'm going on Monday at 4pm, so I'll probably post a tweet filled with flailing after that xD

This is so good to hear! I'm one of those fans who groaned when I heard there was going to be ANOTHER spiderman movie. The original ones with Toby Maguire were my FAVORITE. The remake after that was okay (they would have been better but after the ending to the second movie I could never forgive them :P). I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE SPIDERMAN HOMECOMING. Super cool to hear that he's actually a kid this time xD

One question: how much was Tony Stark in it???? I hear people saying that it's basically Iron Man 4. I really like Tony, but I'm curious if he's an overpowering presence :P

    1. It didn't feel like Iron Man 4 at all to me. I think the trailers had disproportionate Tony Stark shots because Robert Downey Jr. is a big name and a good selling point but I think he had just enough role in the movie. (in my humble opinion :P)

      Delete
    2. NOOO THAT MAKES ME SO SAD YOU MUST SEE IT IMMEDIATELY.

Ugh I know the ending was horrible. But... like... that's part of the reason why I loved it so much? because they did the death SO WELL. I sobbed so hard in the theater and it was a bit embarrassing. xD

Pshh DON'T LISTEN TO THOSE PEOPLE. Tony Start was in it for like... a total screen time of 15-20 minutes? He's a mentor/father figure to Peter so of course he plays a big part in Spider-Man's life, but... he's not actually there for a lot of it.

      Delete
    3. Oh, good xD I like Tony, but I'm glad he's not in it TOO much. Thank you, Katie and Meredith!

  11. OH MY GOSH THIS MOVIEEEEEEEEEEE. *dies* I LOVED IT!!!! And yes, I LOVE that he's actually young! We get to see into his school life, and that just made it a whole lot more relatable for me. :) AND YES. I THINK I STOPPED BREATHING ESPECIALLY DURING THAT CERTAIN PLOT TWIST. Basically, it's the best Spider-Man movie ever. Maybe even best Marvel movie, though Civil War and Doctor Strange are pretty high on my list too...

  12. Dude oh my gosh I watched Homecoming twice in one week and I just can't get over how amazing it is. The characters. The balance of comedy and tension (slight spoiler here, just warning people: that one scene where Peter was trapped under that collapsed building left me speechless. Tom Holland is amazing.). The story. EVERYTHING. I was attached to every character, because, among other things, they felt so real and young. They seemed like actual teenagers. And DUDE. SPIDER-MAN IS FINALLY IN THE MCU. Definitely the best Spider-Man film, though both of the other series had good elements. I think the old trilogy with Tobey Maguire was pretty good with some of the villains, and with capturing Peter's awkwardness, but I mean...there was also Spider-Man 3 and Mary Jane, who sort of annoys me. Andrew Garfield's movies were pretty meh overall, but I felt like the romance, character development, and (especially) Gwen's death were handled very well. Homecoming really combines all the best elements of the other films while also holding its own as a film AND adding to the MCU, so I'll never get over it. Ever. Nope.

Yeah, I really loved the Andrew Garfield movies because of all the reasons you mentioned. Those aspects were done SO WELL that it was easy for me to overlook everything else. Just... the death... I hate that she died but I also loved it because they did it PERFECT JUSTICE.

I KNOW IT WAS SO GREAT. The next one comes out on July 5th, 2019, so I'm already counting down the days... :P (but we have Infinity Wars before then. Eek!)

  13. YES IT WAS SO GOOD.

I'd been furiously looking forward to it since March and it really delivered.

Haha I loved the part with the Captain America fitness challenge where Michelle is just reading a book in the bleachers. That is me. xD

Yeah it was seriously funny in a lot of places but then that plot twist happened and I guess it was sort of formulaic in a way(other movies have had similarly structured twists) but this was executed flawlessly. And it was so tense and really good.

Also there was some off-the-wall verbal humor but as far as what the students(minus Flash) actually *did* things were surprisingly innocent and I loved that.

I just want more Captain America PSAs. xD

    1. YESS THAT IS SO FUNNY. Ha I just loved the little humor aspects like that. Michelle is great and I can't wait for Marvel to explore her character a little more.

  14. YESSSSSSSSSSSS. YES TO ALLLLLL THE THINGS. I was nodding along to like EVERY sentence in this post because you basically wrote out my entire feelings of this movie.

Although...I will admit, I like a lot of other Marvel movies better. It's not my FAVORITE Marvel movie. BUT I STILL ADORE IT WITH ALL MY BEING. I love ALLLLLL the Marvel movies. Some just rank a biiit higher than others for me. XD

    BUT STILL. THIS MOVIE.

Spider-Man has always been one of my top, TOP favorite superheros as well. In fact, when I was young he WAS my favorite but then the Iron Man movies came into existence and...well, the rest is history. XD BUT I LOVE SPIDER-MAN SO VERY MUCH. He's so hilarious and relatable and it's too fun how YOUNG he is. GAH. HE'S SO PRECIOUS.

The Toby Maguire movies were my first introductions to the superhero world, too! And they were like some of my favoritest of movies back in the day. They don't really hold up anymore. Marvel has certainly upped their game. XD But I still have fond memories of those movies.

I wasn't real wild about the Andrew Garfield movie and...I didn't even see the second one. Whoops. :x

BUT BUT BUT. THIS CURRENT SPIDER-MAN IS SO PERFECT. I LOVE HIMMMM. He's everything I've always loved about Spider-Man. Sweet and precious and a bit snarky and totally hilarious and LSKJLJFLSJK:DJ:DJKF.

This movie was SO funny. AND INTENSE, YES. Marvel is the MASTER at making movies both hilarious and intense at the same time. But ooooooh my word THE PLOT TWIST. My heart was literally pounding and I may have forgotten to breathe. That one scene was soooo intense and they made you FEEL what Peter was feeling. Oh my word just... *collapses*

I really liked how they decided to skip the whole origin story. We all KNOW Spider-Man's origin and have enough movies about that. It was so great how we went straight to his life after he'd had his powers for a while. It was so fun!

Just...THIS MOVIE!!!! AND THIS POST. My comment is so long when I could have just pointed to your post and said "THIS". Because you summed it all up perfectly. XD

I loved Tom Holland's Spidey and the fact that he's so much more relatable and teenagerish (I totally just made that word up then!) than Tobey Maguire's was (though I do still love those movies). The only thing I didn't like about Homecoming was the sky fight scene at the end which just stretched my believability a little too much. Granted it did look pretty spectacular! And I loved Michelle (so much relatability right there!) I can happily fangirl with you now Katie

    1. Pshh, teenagerish is totally a word. XD

Yeah, I noticed that too. And I feel like at some parts (backflipping over the bed in the beginning, and just straight up leaping over the school fence) looked kind of unrealistic? I get that he's a superhero... but yet the special effects made it look like he was disobeying the laws of nature and such.

The plane fight was good, but I think the best scene of the climax was AFTER the plane crashed. That whole scene on the beach brought me to tears, gosh dangit.

  27. I wanted to see it in the theatre so badly, but after looking at the reviews and seeing the many times my Lord's name was used, I decided to not see it. So I'm waiting for VidAngel to finish up the whole lawsuit thing so I can watch filtered movies again. Then I'll get to watch it! But I enjoyed Spidey in Civil War, so I can't wait to learn more about his character. This post did not help my patience levels....lol

    1. Ahh, that makes sense. I can respect that! I really do hope VidAngel comes back online, because my family had only discovered it right when the whole lawsuit thing came up. >.< *sigh*

*gives you all the patience* :P

    2. Didn't VidAngel start filtering a few things again? One of my friends recently used it to watch Sherlock.

  31. I think it's regretful that I. don't. watch. superhero. movies. Just it never was part of the family's movie watching habbits? I've seen, like two Supermans, and Batman cartoons :P must change this at some point in the future. Especially if I want to write superhero books like I say. *sigh*

Anyway, tagged you for the Early Writing tag by Abbiee - you may have seen it already! http://thisinkwell.blogspot.ca/2017/07/early-writings-tag-this-should-be-very.html (sorry took forever for me to inform everyone I tagged)

    1. Awhh that makes me sad but I understand that it's not everyone's things. Superhero books? Ooh, that sounds exciting...

Thanks for tagging me! I wish I had more early writings, but I really don't have enough to participate in the tag. xD

  32. AAHHHEEE yes I loved this movie. I was a little surprised because I've never *really* seen any of the other ones, and I've only very recently gotten into Marvel movies. But this movie was so stinking good, AH. And I totally understand what you're saying about you feel as if you're in the story!! MEEP. Okay I'll stop. My gosh. oops.

I think my favorite super hero is Captain America, and I'm okay with that. Bucky too. I'm not ranting about Bucky though. Nope. Not today. XD

  33. Trailer watching marathons? Sounds really weird, but also fun. :)

I just watched "Spiderman" yesterday; our whole family went for my mom's birthday. I loved the school aspect of it too! Made the whole thing so relatable.

And the random jokes - I loved those. I actually haven't watched many Marvel movies (CA 1 and 2 and Iron Man), and Dad did say that Marvel is lighter than DC (only watched WW) but I really really appreciated the random humor :)

And the plot twist. HOW. HOW DO THEY DO THIS? LIKE, WHO MAKES THESE UP?

Glad you liked it as well, Katie!

    1. Yes! You have to do them sometime. xD

      Awhh, that sounds like fun!

I haven't really watched many DC movies either... but from what I understand they tend to be a lot darker as well. Someday I'll have to get into them... but right now I really love Marvel.

      RIGHT?? AHHH.
