Reading Goals for 2015

Wednesday, January 7, 2015
I read exactly 60 books last year. I was reading consistently until I reached mid summer, when I started to get really crazy with writing. Before I knew it, it was December and I had only read a handful of books in the last months.

I'm really hoping to change that this year. When I read, inspiration starts building up in my mind. It sparks new ideas, and helps improve my own writing. I don't want to become so obsessed with writing that reading falls off my list.

So this year, I set a goal of 67 books.

And as you can see in the widget above, I have read two books so far. Heartless by Anne Elizabeth Stengl, and On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson. Both are very good. :)

I am keeping track of the books I read using Goodreads, which is basically a social media website for books. You can find my profile here if you want to friend me.

And to make this post interesting, here are some of the upcoming books I plan to read in the next couple of weeks:

1. The Tales of Goldstone Woods

Red Lettering: Writing That Rough Draft: Guest Post by Anne Elisabeth Stengl

I finished Heartless a couple of days ago, and am just a few chapters away from finishing Veiled Rose. I'm excited to read the rest of the series. :D

2. The Silmarillion

I've been wanting to read this one for awhile. I enjoyed The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings immensely. It'll be nice to get into the Tolkien world once again. :)

 3. The Wingfeather Saga

I couldn't find a picture of all four of the books, but I really want to read the rest of the series, including The Warden and the Wolf King. I just need to find a way to get ahold of them somehow...

 4. One Realm Beyond

I've read some of other Donita K. Paul's books and really liked them.  Upon reading the back synopsis of One Realm Beyond, I knew that I wanted to read it immediately. Therefore, I want to read it very soon. :)

Do you have a reading goal this year? If so, what is it?

  1. Writing is really good to do, too, especially since it is your goal to get published one day, but I understand your point. Reading feeds your writing so it's important to strike a balance between the two. I'm going to try to read 100 books this year. I plan to read the same books that you have on your list. I would love to finish the rest of the Tales of Goldstone Wood before Poison Crown comes out. I also really want to read The Simarillion, which I've never read before. I think I should do a Tolkien-a-thon, where I reread The Hobbit and LOTR and read The Simarillion all in a row. And if I really want to kick it up a notch, I might even watch the movies in the same time.

    1. Yes. I'm hoping I can find a good balance this year.
I saw that on Goodreads! Someday I shall read 100 books in a year, but it is not that year. (That sounded like an Aragorn thing to say. xP)
A Tolkien-a-thon? That sounds awesome. I just finished reading The Hobbit, but really want to reread LOTR again sometimes in the near future.

  2. Oh, I definitely recommend One Realm Beyond! Donita K. Paul is one of my favorites. The Tales of Goldstone Woods and The Wingfeather Saga are on my to-read list (I attempted the Silmarillion once and failed :/ ). Best of luck with your 2015 goals! I'll look you up on Goodreads. :)

    1. Yay! It's always nice to have books on my to-read list recommended.
(I've heard that the Silmarillion is hard to get through... It'll probably be one of those books that I have another one on hand to read in between.)
      I accepted your friendship!

  3. Ooh, I just finished The Silmarillion. Definitely not light reading, but worth it in my mind. :) Good luck with reading this year!

    1. It seems to be a popular book right now. I'm hoping I can make it through. :)
Thank you! I wish the same to you, and with your writing.
