The Summer Bucket List

Saturday, June 11, 2016
"Stealing" this idea from the fabulous Aimee, because her summer bucket list was cool to read.

1. TAKE MORE PICTURES.

I have a new phone that can actually take decent pictures, and there's lots of memories coming up to be documented. Not to mention that I like taking pictures. Also I want to include more of my own pictures in my posts. Because that would be cool.

-
2. SURVIVE WORKING AT STARBUCKS.

This is a pretty easy thing to do. I hope. As of a couple weeks ago, I started working at Starbucks! There are lots of lovely people there and the customers are awesome and always interesting.

This Starbucks is right by the theater, and the other day a girl came in wearing a black leather jacket. One of the sleeves was a metal gray with the winter soldier's star on it. I may have had a fangirl/squeal attack.

-
3. START EDITING THE SAND DRAGON'S SONG.

Ew. This is my least favorite of all my summer bucket list's items. Because this book is huge and so messed up. *dies* But I have a new editing/outlining process that I'll use for it, so I'm kinda excited about that. Pictures and more details will be expanded on that in July. :D

I'm hoping to edit 50 hours in July. (though, that might be a bit too excessive. so it may turn out to be thirty or something but I'm HOPING to get a lot done.) (there's just a lot of HOPING for goals to happen so far on this list. Ah dear. xD)

-
4. LEARN SOME TWENTY ONE PILOT SONGS ON THE PIANO.

Because Twenty One Pilots is awesome. And learning how to play the songs would be even more awesome so I can play them ALLL the time around the house. Mwahaha.

-
5. DO SOME ARTING.

(anyone feel like 'arting' should be a word? it just sounds awesome and artsy in it's own special way.)

I used to doodle/zentangle/mandala a fair amount, but since writing has taken over, that's dropped. I really do enjoy doing it, so maybe this summer I can make a few cards or prints while listening to audiobooks. Aw yis.

-
6. EAT PIZZA.

Yes. I had to list this.

-
7. CATCH UP ON ALLLL THE BETA-ING.

I love betaing my writer friend's books. Love love love it. But I'm also really really really bad at it. I read and then I forget to read and then I forget what happened and then once I finally read I just love it all and I'm not sure what to say and basically IT'S A STRUGGLE. (wow, very big run on sentence there, Katie)

But I'm going to become better at it. And I might as well become better at it this summer.

-
8. READ BOOKS.

I mean, obviously.. But I want to read LOTS of books. Good books. I also want to avoid the bad books. Maybe get into some more contemporary? I haven't been reading as much fantasy lately and I've been enjoying the different genres.

-
9. FINISH EDITING SONG OF THE DESERT.

At least, finish editing all the beta comments. After that... start thinking about pitching/querying and such? Who actually knows. I don't want to get too ahead of myself. xD

(and also are you starting to understand that there's going to be a lot of editing this summer?)

-
10. TRY NOT TO DIE IN THE HEAT.

Does anyone else really not... like the summer? The heat kills me. I hate the sticky feeling in the sun, mosquitoes eating me alive, and always feeling thirsty and sweaty.

But then again, there's no school, so I'll take the trade. :P

-
11. DO THE THINGS THAT I DON'T REMEMBER TO DO.

Obviously I can't list them here since I forgot what these tasks are... but I'm sure there are some of them. *looks around my room* But it's definitely not cleaning my room. That's for sure not one of them. Ha. Ha.

-
12. JOURNAL MORE CONSISTENTLY.

At the beginning of 2016, I was journaling nightly, but that let off pretty quickly. I think journaling is awesome, and I'd really like to do more of it. So then in 10 years I can see what little Katie was doing and thinking. (scary thought. o.o)

-
13. ROLLERBLADE MORE.

Rollerblading is basically walking but you can go faster with less effort. And what's a better way to get exercise than that? :P

-
14. WATCH AGENT CARTER.

I've heard good things about this one so I've put it on hold at the library. Even though the third season got canceled (boooo), I'm still gonna enjoy the first two. Has anyone else watched this?

-
15. WATCH ALL THE MARVEL MOVIES IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER.

Because yes. I've watched Captain America: The First Avenger and Iron Man so far. The Incredible Hulk is next. I haven't watched that one before, so crossing my fingers. :D (though I think my dad and sister gave it a pretty good review?)

-
16. MEET MY WRITER FRIENDS.

This is happening TOMORROW, you guys. TOMORROW. My family's gonna pick Aimee up at the airport, and two days after that we're going to a conference with Hannah and Caroline. ALL THE EXCITEMENT AH.

What are three of your summer bucket list items?

  1. Ooh, you've got some cool stuff there. I will definitely do number six. xD Although, it's kinda winter over here with makes it odd to have Americans complaining about the upcoming heat while I'm just sitting here FINALLY enjoying the beautiful cool. :)
I wish you luck with everything, hopefully you survive. Are you planning on doing editing for Camp NaNo?

    1. Number six.
*scrolls up to see what it is*
*scrolls back down to the comment section*
      AH YES. Lovely pizza. xD

Ahhh, that is a little odd. Well, enjoy the cool. I'll try not to be too jealous of you. ;)

I'll be editing! *blah* So. Much. Editing. Will you be writing or editing?

    2. Hehe, yup. :) I'm going to be writing on my dystopian Robin Hood retelling. I'm really looking forward to actually getting into it properly. :D

  2. SUMMEEEEER! Your summer looks soooo awesome from the bucket list! I've never rollerbladed before but I really want to try it out sometime. And pizza... Have you tried documenting how many slices you eat in a year? THAT WOULD BE SO MICH FUN WE SHOULD DO THAT IN 2017!!!!

Good luck with the heat! How hot does it go for you? This summer we were surviving at around 39 C every day which was killing me.

Editing!!!!! From here I would say it's fun to finally have a finished draft ready for editing, but I have yet to edit and I don't have any first draft yet, just a bunch of random ideas I'm trying to outline to make a story. Let's see how that goes.

(And while you're having summer my school starts in 5 days I think?!? I went to school yesterday just for the fun of it and saw my classroom and it is HUGE and I am so nervous and our lockers are ACTUAL metal lockers not the wooden ones you have to pound to open!!!! I guess my #1 goal for June/July would be to survive 8th grade and my #2 to write a first draft for real!!!)

Do tell Aimee and Hannah and Caroline I say hello! I love all of their blogs even though sometimes I am like really shy to comment and say hi. :P

    1. You've... never rollerbladed before? o.O Wow. Someone needs to take you rollerblading. xD

OOH THAT'S A GOOD IDEA. I SHOULD DO THAT NEXT YEAR. Though the number might be a little terrifying. :P

ACK. 39 C? It got to about 32 C today and this is early in the summer. There's LOTS more of the heat to come. *groan*

(Eek! How scary. o.o YOU'LL DO AMAZING. *confetti*)

Ahhh yus! All of their blogs are lovely, aren't they? *happy sigh*

  3. GAHHH WHAT AN AMAZING LIST OMG!!! It sounds like your going to be having a AMAZING summer Katie Grace!!! Rollerblading sounds totally EPIC, I wish I knew how to do cool stuff like that...

As for my summer bucket list, I think I want to ride a horse (without dying because horses are really BIG and TALL), make some new internet friends (because internet friends are just ABDGAJDJJH.) and read A LOT more. I'm always so busy in the school year and I never have time to finish a book.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU THIS SUMMER!!

    1. AH THANK YOU. Wow, I didn't realize that rollerblading was considered such a "cool" thing? I thought it was completely normal and all until I read through these comments. BUT ROLLERBLADING IS A THING THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN YES.

Ooh, I've never actually ridden a horse. I've ridden a pony, but... I mean, that's not exactly the same thing.

THANK YOU BEST OF LUCK TO YOU AS WELL.

  4. I agree with you so much! The only things I like about summer are no school, more writing time, beautiful mornings, and SWIMMING!

I'm going to make a summer bucket list now! This looks so cool! Three things that would have to be on my summer bucket list are
    1. Try to find a blogger who actually lives near me!
    2. Finish writing my novel.
    3. Finish editing my book.

I can't wait to rollerblade!!!! I still have to get some, but I learned last summer at camp and it was awesome!

    1. I'm going to have to disagree with you on the swimming part. I don't know, but swimming isn't my type of thing. Lying on my bed reading a book is more how I deal with the summer. :P

      You'll totally enjoy rollerblading! :D It's awesome.
      Good luck with your goals!

  5. This is AWESOME! And I'm now stuck on the idea of a winter solider jacket. I mean, they exist.
You have to keep us updated on your barista-ing. I've thought about applying at a coffee shop eventually, but memorizing how to make all the things sounds scary. XD
I'm not sure about my bucket list. Probably edit, continue doing math, enjoy the outdoors (so that means figuring out how to destroy the biting flies and mosquito's) and make more art. I should make a post... hmmm...
Hope you have a great time conferencing!

Edit. Yay. :P EW I TOTALLY STRUGGLE WITH MOSQUITOES TOO IT'S A HARD STRUGGLE. Sigh. One summer I counted 40+ bites on my legs alone. Ewww.

The conference is tomorrow! So excited. :D

  6. I LOVE this post! I might have to steal the idea too, because it is the best *nods*. And I'll have to check out Aimee's bucket list, too!

Black leather jacket with one metal grey arm and the winter soldier's star on it? That girl is cool.

OOO WOW you do have a lot of editing to do. I hope you survive.
    Please survive.
We need to read your books.
*gives you pizza to help* *and cookies* *and extra pens* *and all the things*

Aw, I wish I could do arting. But I'm terrible at arting :(. I've tried. But if you do it, you should post some picture of the stuff you've ... arted? I guess that would be the word *shrugs*.

EAT PIZZA YES. Guess what? Just last night my uncle bought six pizzas, brought 'em over, and we basically had a pizza party. It was EPIC :D.

PITCHING/QUERYING?! *flails* AH, I'm SO excited to see how everything goes! *whispers* I hope Katie gets published, I hope Katie gets published, I hope Katie gets published, I hope Katie gets published ...

UGH HEAT. I absolutely MELT in the heat, I do not do well with it. Why can't it stay spring or fall all year long?!

Three items on my bucket list ... Hmm. Okay, finish writing Killing Snow (my novella), start working (well, volunteering) at Hetra, and make it alive through the Go Teen Writers 100-for-100 challenge.

    1. Yes, I would love to see your summer bucket list! (even though I've already seen a lot of the posts right here, heh.)

I will post pictures of my arting! I will probably do another post at the end of the summer seeing if I made my goals and all. And then I can include pictures if I did the arting. :D

SIX PIZZAS AH THAT'S A LOT OF PIZZA. It makes me very happy. xD

I know. o.o HOPEFULLY SOONISH BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. And so scaryyy I don't like talking to my people about my book. Sigh. xD

RIGHT? I would be perfectly happy with it being fall all year long. The wonderful fall colors, weather, outfits, hot cocoa... *happy sigh*

Ooh, good luck with your 100-for-100 challenge!

  7. Awesome bucket list, Katie! We all have some sort of thing on our lists that we don't.really.like. *hands you pizza for all that editing* xD

  10. #10. Like, #10. Like—*plugs ears* TOO MUCH HEAT?! Stop. Don't say it. Before you know it the dreaded..uh..you know what will be here. Enjoy the bare feet, ice cream without freezing, and swimming while you can. xD

I've never done a bucket list—probably because if I didn't complete everything by the end of summer I'd just cry or something. I'm a perfectionist in some things, and in other things I'm like, "ah, whatever. It's better than before." lol. xD But I DO want to finish my novel by..this year. I'm planning on starting another novel for camp nano. eeekkk. You'll be doing camp, right?? ohhh, are you editing next month? :P It hurts to chop up your novel. Probably why I decided to write something new this camp. Hard at the same time, I've become awful attached to this novel. It's going to take a while to get out of the habit of writing my MC's name in my new book...considering I've been doing it for a year and a half. xD

    1. Winter. Oops. I actually don't ind it TOO much so. *cough* I used to hate it more but when comparing it to summer it's not THAT bad, soooo. :P

      xD

  11. Oh my goodness, I LOVE this post idea. :D

Yay for taking more pictures! Yes, phones these days really do have high quality photos... though I still prefer my trusty DSLR. :)

Ah yes... editing. I'm guessing you're pretty excited about that, hm? ;)

PIANO. I need to learn some songs from my favorite bands/singers this summer. *aw yes* Like Lauren Daigle music. <3 And something I've been wanting to try is the Piano Guys' arrangements. All the songs are so beautiful and I just love them so much and ahhh. <3 <3 <3

And yes. ARTING. xD That should totally be a word. And that card you pictured in the post is really cool. :) I ADORE different types of handwriting, so I'm constantly doing that on little scraps of paper and sticking them in random places. Such fun. :P

Heat. Ugh. It's usually around the 100s here now. And in the /hottest/ part of the month, I'll be moving down to Alabama and HUMIDITY. The one good thing about Nevada heat is that it's dry, and there are no mosquitoes. But now... I'm heading back to both humidity and the nasty blood-sucking fiends. xD

Ahh, journaling is something I've wanted to keep up consistently, too. I think it would be so nostalgic for college or mom-age me to read what I wrote when I was a kid. And really weird. o.o

ROLLERBLADING! *woot woot* I loveeee rollerblading oh my goodness. <3 YES, YOU MUST DO MORE OF IT. Okay? Deal. :P

Ahhhhhhhhhhh oh my goodness you're meeting Aimee and Caroline and Hannah THAT SOON?!? It would be so surreal to meet /my/ online friends, just... I can't even imagine it. o.o FLOOD your next post with pictures of you and them, 'kay? Cause OH MY this is just so exciting. xD (though I don't know why I'm getting so excited when it's happening to you and not me. :P I'M EXCITED FOR YOU.) :D

    2. Ah. Yes. So excited about editing. -.^

DUDE. Trying some of the piano guys arrangements would be so much fun. But also really hard. Let me know how that goes. xD Do you know what arrangements you'd like to do?

EW. 100s? That's... that's just too much. How do you handle it? :P

RIGHT? o.O I like to think that I would find my journals funny, but I'll probably just be cringing and headdesking the whole time. Ack that would be so weird. SOMEDAY I'M GOING TO BE OLD. *freaks out*

YESSS ROLLERBLADING. I love it. <3 We'll both do more of it together. :D

EEK. I'm writing this comment as Aimee is in the same room as meeee. It's so exciting and I basically can't handle myself. I'll have a wrap-up post this Saturday with plenty of pictures. o.o

Yes, sitting in the car is probably a good idea. Not standing or ESPECIALLY not sitting on top of it. xD

      Delete
    3. I KNOW. o.o They're arrangements are really tricky, but I'm willing to try! *raises sword* I really like their original Waterfall and their Love Story by Taylor Swift meets Viva La Vida... or whatever it's called. xD

Haha, yeah. The good news is that it's a dry heat, so no humidity... yet. But I'm moving down to Alabama shortly, so that will soon change. :P

AMEN YES. *feels weird at the thought* Sometimes my sister and I take out our old notebooks from when we were around five, and we read our stories, emphasizing all the misspelled words. :P It's great fun, but also cringe-inducing. xD

      DEAL. :D

OH MY GOODNESS! *waves to Aimee* Yes, make sure to put in plenty, plenty, plenty of pictures. o.o

Oh yes. Sage advice, Katie. xD

  12. Agent Carter's pretty good! I haven't seen the second season yet, but I really liked the first season. Partly just because I'm seriously in love with the forties (which may or may not have everything to do with Captain America?).
Well, one of my goals this summer was to get a job, and I've already done that, so. It's only for the summer, but at least I don't have to think about looking for another one until August. :P

I didn't really think of what I wanted to do of my summer except read my bible more and finish my first draft of the 2nd tome of a trilogy I'm working on. But I'd like to learn skateboarding (I tried once with my brother's penny and almost died of a heart attack) because I'm growing sick of walking around (I just ruined my favourite pair of sandals by doing so)

    1. Finish my story Adrian's rebel - because I'm writing it for too long and I want to finish it so I can edit.

    2. Learn German. I had it in high school but since uni I lost contact and I'm kinda sad because I love learning new languages.

  26. Please ask your followers to pray for me? I had my long awaited doctors appointment at Vanderbilt in Nashville on the 12th of May. I have for the past months been having a lot of dizziness, temple aches, zoning out, and i sometimes see triple vision. I also have lost my energy, my legs get week a lot, and i just have a lot of dizziness mostly!!!! I have to go back to Vanderbilt on the 16th of this month, (three day’s before my birthday!!!) for some tests, they did not do anything yesterday but ask questions and test my reflexes. And my reflexes were just fine so they are going to do tests then. They are going to do more blood work(I HATE NEEDLES), do an MRI, and EEG. Just please keep me in your prayers!
    GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ps. I even passed out once!!!!!

  28. THIS IS WONDERFUL!!!! And I second you on the photography, arting (it should TOTALLY be a word. In fact, we've decided. It's a word.), and reading! Plus, WATCHING ALL OF THE MARVEL MOVIES IN ORDER!!! (I should do that someday...). Hulk wasn't my favorite. I think it's about the only one I haven't seen twice. And even Agent Carter lost me in this last season, mainly because the episodes were often two hours and I got busy and behind. I want to catch up, mayyybbbbeee this summer :)

Great list and best of luck completing these goals. But first and foremost, let's live in the grace and much moreness (also a word, because I said so) of Christ. Because, like it or not, we won't get everything done. But He has already done more than enough for us.

    1. MARVEL MOVIES. Awh, that's sad to hear. Whoah, two hours for an episode? o.O Dude, that's intense. My library doesn't have the second season yet. How many episodes were there total? Because that's a LOT of content, then. o.o

Thank you! And absolutely -- it's important to remember what we're living for and not get too caught up in the summer fun. (or work. or overwhemlingness. :P)

  31. The first season of Agent Carter is wonderful. The second season explains why it was canceled. Hayley Atwell deserves better. I miss her already.
