Monthly Highlights - March

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

Do you all realize that we're one fourth of the way done with this year? Freaky, right?

But this year has been absolutely fantastic so far. I've been blessed with all the opportunities I've gotten, and the feedback from this blog. Seeing all the comments makes me smile. So thank you!

- Before I list this, no, it's not a highlight. But I have been editing like crazy this month. I came short of my goal for 1,000 minutes, but I did a bunch, so I'm happy with myself. Even though I'm still nowhere close to finishing my first round of edits.

- CAMP NANOWRIMO! I hope you all realize that this starts tomorrow. I'm nervous, but I'm incredibly excited, especially about my story idea. See? Proof:

- I turned fifteen. Thank you for all the wonderful birthday wishes I got! It meant a lot. :)

- I've been busily working on a fanart entry for The Tales of Goldstone Woods fanart contest, and guess what? I finished it one day before the deadline. I was really worried that I wouldn't make it in time...

- It's finally stopped snowing here (at least I hope it has for good) so I've taken the snow off my blog header. It looks a lot more crisp than it did before.

- My youth group went to this thing called The Maze. An illusionist put on a show involving magic, mixing in his testimony. Over one hundred students came to Christ. His story was really inspiring and unbelievable.

Oh, reading. I do love you, and I do wish I had more time for you.

1. To Kill a Mockingbird
2. The Way of the Kings
3. The Monster in the Hollows

Yeah. Three books in March. Again.
But remember how I asked for recommendations in my Camp NaNoWriMo and other babblings post? I also stalked my friends' Goodreads shelves and put a bunch of books on hold.

I walked out of the library with this stack:

It was marvelous. Now I just have to figure out when to read them all.

((I couldn't put alll your recommendations on hold, just because I can only read so many books before they're due again. xD))

For those of you doing Camp NaNoWriMo, Ana made up a quiz about how you prepare. You should go take it and let me know what you got. :D

You can check out the results from the Flash Fiction Challenge here!

Faith wrote an excellent post about manipulating your reader.

Alea posted her birthday cake recipe. I want to eat it all up. xD

And, finally, Aimme just wrote about the different types of opening lines in novels.

To those of you participating in Camp NaNoWriMo, good luck! Here's to a long and hopefully fun month of writing. :)
... April is going to be insane.

Byeeeee!

So. Do you feel at all ready for Camp, or are you freaking out like I am? What's one of your favorite posts that a blogging buddy has written this month? (or maybe one of your own?) Favorite read of March? Let me know!

  1. I'll be joining!!! I'm excited, nervous and wondering if I'll make it through April. ;) I'm already in the process of writing something (12,060 words so far) so I'll just be adding another 20,000 or so making about 30,000. :D How many words will you be going for? I took the quiz, and I was a plantser. haha, I think it's totally me! :D It's no fun having to plan it all, then you get bored! ;) Can't wait to start writing in....12 hours or so! ;)

    1. Yay! Good for you, Sarah!
I'm going for 45,000 words, but secretly hoping that I can make it to 50,000. I don't think it'll happen, but it'd be great if it did. xD
Yay, plantsers unite! *high-fives* I totally agree. I like to see where the story goes and have the twists surprise me. :)
      Eight more hours, now! :D

    2. IT'S STARTED! AH! I don't know if I should panic, cry, or jump in excitement... ;)
Oh wowww...this is my first time, so I'm going for a total of 20,000 in the month (with a total of 30,000), but secretly (lol) I plan on writing more than 667 words a day to see how far over I can go. ;) Do you usually write in the evening? Or day? I usually write in the evening when all school and chores are done and when my mind is free to soar. :D
whoo! *high-five* ;) I'm really excited to be getting started...Camp NaNo, here I come!

    3. IT'S SO EXCITING!
I have a goal of 45,000, but right now I have almost 10,000 already, so am hoping to go for a lot more. :D
I write throughout the day, but I write best in the evening. I tend to be most awake at night (night owl... :p) and my imagination is more active.
      Good luck!

  2. Hi Katie!
I am so impressed with everything that you accomplished this month! That is quite the stack of books you've got there, too. I hope you find time to read them all! Good luck with Camp NaNoWriMo, and happy birthday (this month)! :)

I'm so excited about reading all the books. I'm hoping they aren't all gonna be due during Camp. :p
      Thank you!

At least you'll have more time for plotting. :p Or nervously counting the minutes down. Whichever suits you best.

I loved it. I'm not sure if you're on Goodreads or not, but I wrote up a mini review on there. I'd love to add you to my friends list. :)
I really want to read the fourth book... My library doesn't have it, so I have to buy then myself. Right now the paperback isn't available so I'm going to wait until it comes out.
How do you like the series?

  5. Yay for camp! Right now I'm basically a huge bundle of nerves and excitement. How am I going to handle myself tomorrow? It's too bad you didn't have much time to read this month. Honestly, though, The Way of Kings counts for like three books because it's so huge. Surprisingly, I was able to read more books this month than last month-even though I had the same amount of schoolwork. The only bad thing is that my blogging kind of suffered. Thanks for including my link!

    1. I'M SO EXCITED AND NERVOUS. AH. xD
It totally counts as three books. It's a thousand pages, so yeah. And I also am halfway through the next one, so that kinda counts as another book, too. :p
Yeah... Though you were participating for Fan Month half of the month, so it's understandable.
Of course! Thanks for providing the quiz. :D

  6. I love the cover you drew for The Music Master! Good luck in Camp Nano!

That fanart contest sounds awesome! I can't wait to check out everyone's entries. It's fun that the fans get to choose their favorites.

And goodness gracious, those books!! I remember when I used to check out that many books from the library. The librarians would glance at each other and smile. I see you got Crown Duel. Hope you enjoy!

    1. It's not as much of a cover and more like the title with a bunch of doodles around it. xD I'm happy with how it turned out, though. :)
I'm sooooo excited to see all the entries. Tomorrow is a very exciting day filled with Camp and fanart awesomeness. :D
Yeah. It was a surprise to come to the library and see all the books on hold. I didn't remember requesting all of them. :p And thank you for the recommendation! I hope I enjoy it, too. :)

  9. Awesome, you and I are the same age right now! =D Happy late birthday!! Oh wow, you got about the same amount of books that I usually do. ;D The False prince is really cool, I hope you enjoy it. =D I'm pretty ready for Camp, I'm writing a comedy which is really easy for me. =) I don't think I could pick, I have read so many good posts this month!! My favorite read was Palace of Stone by Shannon Hale. =D

I'm really excited about reading all the books... I'm just not sure how to balance it all with Camp NaNo. :p
Ooh. I really want to read that one. I loved the first one, didn't like the second one, so I'm hoping I'll really like the third one.

  10. I won't be doing Camp NaNo, but I am doing NaPoWriMo. I'm getting ready to welcome thirty horrible poems into the world. xD My favorite read of March was Clouds of Witness by Dorothy Sayers. *nods* Oh, and it makes me so happy that you got Gathering Blue from the library. ^^
Have a wonderful April, and good luck with Camp NaNo!

  12. Hi! I hope Camp Nano is going awesome for you, I can't wait to hear about your experience! I did it as sort of a birthday present to myself a few years ago (weird bday present, right) and it was so much fun. But speaking of which, happy belated birthday!

That must mean your birthday is sometime this month, or somewhere around this month? Happy early or belated birthday, then. xP
      Thank you!
